Capacity scale – A historic increase

The most important highlight of the adjusted plan is the substantial increase in service capacity:

Passenger capacity: The new plan has revised Gia Binh airport’s capacity to six times that of the previous plan.

    ◦ By 2030: Gia Bình Airport is planned to have a capacity of approximately 30 million passengers per year. (The previous plan provided for only 5 million passengers/year by 2030).

    ◦ Vision to 2050: Capacity will reach approximately 50 million passengers per year. (The previous plan provided for only 15 million passengers/year by 2050).

Cargo capacity: By 2030, the airport will be able to handle 1.6 million tonnes of cargo per year. With a vision to 2050, cargo capacity will reach 2.5 million tonnes per year.

Gia Bình Airport is designed to accommodate a wide range of large, modern aircraft, such as the B777, B787, A350 and A321, as well as other charter and specialised aircraft.

International-standard aviation infrastructure

To meet this enormous capacity, the airport’s infrastructure will be comprehensively expanded:

• Runways: With a vision to 2050, the airport is planned to have a total of 4 runways.

    ◦ By 2030, the airport will have two runways in the northern area, measuring (3.500 x 45) m.

    ◦ With a vision to 2050, two additional runways will be planned in the southern area, measuring (3.500 x 45 m).

    ◦ Previously, the existing plan provided for only one runway measuring 3.500 m x 45 m through to 2050.

• Aircraft parking stands: The aircraft apron will be expanded from 81 parking stands (the period through to 2030) to approximately 123 parking stands (the vision to 2050).
• Land and specialised facilities: The total land area expected to be required for the project is approximately 1.959 ha for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, nearly five times larger than under the previous plan. The airport will also have a terminal for charter aircraft – a VIP terminal – in the south-western area of the passenger terminal, with a site area of approximately 5,4 ha.

Initially, the airport was commenced by the Ministry of Public Security in early December 2024 and was expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with the initial model being a level 3 helicopter airport, a level 3 military airport and a civil airport equivalent to level 3C under ICAO standards.
